It's been an effective week. My birthday, an episodic shoot ("Living In Exile." Check it out.), being requested for three auditions, and having a manager request a meeting with me next week? If you can't call that effective, it's at least compelling. Maybe not quite "epic" yet, but I'm getting there.
In case you're wondering, my birthday was FABULOUS. Between the spectacular party (thanks to Tim's sign painting, sign hanging, cool hat-gathering, constant running back and forth for party necessities, like wine and snacks, and just being his incredible self) and gathering with friends, fun was had by all. Apparently, a lot of people freak-out when their 20s are over. Not me. My 20s were a combination of awkward, general hell, and, finally, amazing. The prior two had their uses and got me to where I am, but now I'm happy to carry on with more amazing.
Speaking of, I'll keep you cats updated on anything that happens with the auditions and the manager meeting. Whether I collaborate with any, it's never an exercise in futility. It's business. You can always learn something.
"I'm not 25 years old anymore, nor do I want to be. I wouldn't even want to go back to being 30. You know what I mean? That journey, I've done it already. I don't want to do it again. It's a lot of work to get through it, and I am excited about moving forward. I think that people get caught up in getting back to some place that they already passed or to a place where you cannot stay."
- Cameron Diaz
I couldn't have said it better myself, Cameron.
I have an audition tonight! That always makes for a spectacular day. Seriously. I LOVE auditions. Really! I'm not being sarcastic. I'm seriously excited to audition. Always am. It's just a weird actor thing. A lot of actors hate auditioning. Not me. Bring it on!
Speaking of exciting things, I'm sure the more perceptive readers of this blog already know that my birthday is on Wednesday. No judgement if that reader is not you. I'm easily distracted, too, and, as such, can be forgetful as well. Anyway, here is the list of the top seven things I want for my birthday (we're getting into last-minute territory, I know, but you still have a few more days to make arrangements):
10. A really cool hat
- I mean a REALLY cool, not your standard hat. Think military officer caps, cavalier hats, etc.
9. A cape
- Does not have to match the hat (it can, of course, but it is not necessary)
- Cucumber mixed with the necessary vinegar and dill to make pickling happen
- to go with the pickles
- to go with said pickles and tomatoes
- Not some kind of weird, pseudo-patriotic thing. I just like France. Really.
- If France as a whole is not an option, I'm willing to accept Paris.
- As in physical coordination. Haven't mastered it yet.
- Must be functional.
- Can be detachable if need be.
6. A flamingo
- Standard, pink flamingo.
- Must stand on one leg
- Does not count for "Wings" request
* It is a separate request, and therefore a separate gift
7. Scotch tape
- no particular reason. We’re just almost out at home.
Scattered? Maybe a bit. It's ok, though. It was a good week. Three auditions? Ok, it was a GREAT week!
My schedule is operating on hyper-drive right now. Really. I just did yoga, so I'm somewhat decompressed. Somewhat. Maybe.
"When you are an actor, every day kind of morphs into one, as there is no set structure to my job."
- Andrew Lincoln
I get it, Andrew. I almost always operate on 'actor schedule.' The problem is, I often have non-actor things to do. You know, things that involve a 'real schedule.' Confused? Welcome to the club.
Two auditions? I'd say that makes for a pretty decent week. As I've said here before, it's all about slowly building a career, putting all of the pieces into place. With time, patience, and hard work, I'll make it happen.
"When I lived in New York I supported myself by doing commercials. Mostly I auditioned. Once in a blue moon I would actually book one." - William H. Macy
If it worked for William H. Macy, it'll work for me, too. He has an AWESOME career, so I'll stick with it.
