It was a very productive week! I had three auditions, a callback, getting ready for another callback, and now I'm getting ready for four more auditions. This is a good sign.
All of the roles I've been seen for recently are dark, eccentric, and/or other-worldly characters, and I am totally cool with that. I think people in casting get a sense pretty quick that, while I'm upbeat and optimistic, I have a whole lot of unbelievably ridiculous, off-the-wall experiences in my past that don't lend too well to naïve characters. Can I get there if necessary? You're damn right I can. It's just much easier for me to get to someplace more real and less bubblegum and cotton candy-like. Another generally fabulous week comes to a close. I'm gearing up for an audition right now, got to shoot a promo video for Living In Exile (produced by New Media Comedy TV. Go ahead. Subscribe. It's on YouTube.), and got new character shots thanks to the help of my very handsome inamorato (First and foremost, I'm talking about Tim. Second, I bet you didn't expect I would use the word, "inamorato").
I'm getting ready for an audition. Send positive vibes my way! The promo video was, not surprisingly, a blast. It's always great to work with the New Media Comedy TV crew, so I feel very comfortable with them. I even inadvertently used a mythical word on camera. When I say "mythical," I mean that it's not a real word. It doesn't have a definition. Wanna know what I said? I said "absurdery." Really. I was having so much fun, that I started babbling nonsense words. I do that from time to time. You'll see it when the videos come out. I am thrilled with the photos Tim took of me! I've been needing "character shots" for a while, and I'm so happy to finally have some. For those not in the Entertainment Industry, as a character actor, you need character shots to help represent your range. As much time as I spend modeling, all of my headshots before were, well, modeling shots. While that's great for modeling work, it's not terribly helpful if you're trying to be seen for the role of an over-worked professional, or maybe a crazy person. Capiche? It was pure merrymaking, playing around with characters in front of the camera while Tim took the shots. Not that I'm surprised at all, but he's pretty good at this! "I just want to continue being able to get roles that scare me and make me better and I think I can only grow as an artist if I do things that are scaring me and making me uncomfortable because that's the only place you'll learn anything." - Rose Byrne I had an audition at the beginning of the week, and now I'm getting ready for another audition, this one for a film the will shoot outside of the country. Yeah, you could say I'm excited.
Not long ago, I read an editorial with advice for actors, stating the importance for actors to have a life outside of their career. The article said that having not interest outside of acting will lead to a very dull and uninformed performance of a character, since the actor will have no outside experiences to draw from. I'm happy my life has been so interesting so far, and I'm sure it will continue to be. I have a history of unusual jobs and strange hobbies. Perhaps it doesn't make me the most stable person, but it gives me a rich source of material to work with! "Alan Arkin said to me once that he wanted to have a really big life and a really good career. And I think that's really sane." - Michael Keaton I got to see a play I enjoyed last night at the Davenport Theatre: Men and Women Talking Love and Sex. Get the tickets and go see it. Go ahead. My blog will be here when you get back.
One audition coming up so far for this week. It's going to be a great year. Really. No sarcasm. 2015 is going to rock my socks. "Humans have a light side and a dark side, and it's up to us to choose which way we're going to live our lives. Even if you start out on the dark side, it doesn't mean you have to continue your journey that way. You always have time to turn it around." - Tariji P. Henson |
